Benjamin Kennicott (1718-83) was a Hebraist. He was educated and worked most of his life in Oxford. He was the first to systematically examine and produce a collation of the Hebrew manuscripts of the Old Testament. His chief work was Vetus Testamentum hebraicum cum variis lectionibus, 2 vols. Anna Letitia Barbauld, née Aikin, English poet and essayist. Her first book of poems, published before her marriage, was a critical and popular success, but she came to be better known for her works on the teaching of infants. She was among the circle of radical intellectuals gathered around her publisher, Joseph Johnson, which also included the likes of Joanna Baillie, George Dyer, Maria Edgeworth, William Godwin, and Henry Crabb Robinson.
